2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Fayette County completed the 2016 season with a 5-7 record. With their 4-2 region record and a second place finish in Class 4A region six, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Fayette County reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Madison Academy by a score of 36-0. Fayette County took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2004. The Tigers lost as many games as in any season since 1994. The Tigers hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just five games which followed a 10-5 record in 2015. Fayette County was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Tigers want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.4 points a game. Since 2010, Fayette County has gone a combined 65-28. Their 70.0% winning percentage ranks 11th in Class 4A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Fayette County has gone a combined 227-92. Their 71.0% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class 4A and 26th in the AHSAA. The Tigers have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time. The Tigers are led by head coach Lance Tucker who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 55-25 over the past six seasons at Fayette County. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times. They have won three region crowns with Coach Tucker. Coach Tucker's overall record as a head football coach in seven season stands at 55-35 (61.1%). Over the course of his career, Coach Tucker's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times and won three region championships. The Fayette County Tigers will play in Class 4A region six during the 2017 season. The Tigers have one of the toughest schedules in Class 4A. Their opponents had a combined record of 72-42 last season. That ranks 2nd in Class 4A and 7th in the AHSAA. The Tigers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region six this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2004 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2017. The Tigers open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Gordo on Thursday, August 24 at John Morgan Brown Stadium. Last year the Gordo Green Wave finished with an overall record of 13-1 and in first place in Class 3A region four. The Green Wave lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 3A playoffs to Mobile Christian by a score of 21-14. Fayette County and Gordo have met a total of 77 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 42-33-2 record against the Green Wave. They last met in 2016 with Gordo winning by a score of 21-6. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
